MSB Energy Associates - Transmission and Distribution Systems

In the evolving competitive energy market, having reliable transmission access at a reasonable cost is critical for producers, buyers and sellers of energy. Using engineering, economic and environmental analyses, MSB Energy Associates assists clients with concerns about transmission access, costs, plans and policies. MSB is a registered OASIS customer, giving us access to up-to-date transmission information.

MSB Energy Associates’ experience includes:

  • Pioneering the development of new T&D planning tools based on the distributed utility concept called Integrated Targeted Area Resource Planning (ITARP). MSB’s collaborative efforts with utilities, regulators and public intervenors helped lead the State of Wisconsin to require that all T&D proposals be screened for non-transmission solutions.

  • Using transmission power flow analysis software that can be tailored to any transmission system.
Project Spotlight

  • Providing expert testimony on the prudence, adequacy, and need for proposed transmission lines.

  • Performing qualitative transmission system assessments. With these tools and experience, MSB’s staff performs the engineering and economic analyses needed to evaluate transmission system performance, to assess system capabilities and to help you succeed in the market.

  • Conducting engineering, economic and policy analyses of T&D proposals. MSB can seek out and develop alternative solutions to a proposed power line to mitigate impacts.

  • Modeling congestion pricing schemes in transmission networks

  • Evaluating the reasonableness of posted available transmission capacity values.

  • Evaluating the effects of transmission constraints on market power in analyses of proposed mergers

  • Assessing proposed transmission line routes and developing recommendations for alternative routes when appropriate.

  • Assessing the ability of the Eastern Interconnect to support increased competitive power sales.

  • Analyzing transmission system contracts in light of client transmission needs.
