MSB Energy Associates - Native Villages, Tribal Governments

MSB Energy Associates has worked with Native Villages, Tribal Governments and allied agencies over the last several years to provide assistance on energy, environmental and community development issues.

We’ve worked on behalf of Villages and communities and inter-Tribal consortiums in Alaska. In the lower 48 states, we have worked with Native Tribes in Wisconsin and the Great Plains on energy and economic development issues. We are advising the High Plains Sustainable Energy for Economic Development coalition and the Inter-Tribal Council on Utility Policy to ensure Federal restructuring legislation provides equitable opportunities for Native Tribes and Tribal Utilities.

Project Spotlight

MSB has assisted the Alaskan Native Villages of Venatie, Arctic Village, Chickaloon and Point Hope in assessing the potential for renewable energy systems, including wind, solar and small scale hydro, to offset diesel generator costs and provide for economic development.

Examples of MSB Energy Associates' work include:

Performing hydroelectric and wind energy monitoring studies, establishing project construction plans and analyzing the financial impacts of project development including required sales levels, rates and financing requirements.

Working to assess energy saving opportunities and building envelope performance improvements. We also have evaluated utility distribution systems to identify safety, efficiency and performance improvement options.

Economic planning based on renewable energy development. We have worked with native groups to reduce the cost of imported energy by producing it locally; and to develop energy resources that can be sold off-reservation.

Advising on the formation of Tribal utilities to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the deregulated energy sector.

Assisting several villages to develop the information and human resources to finance the construction of large-scale energy projects.

Providing full transmission service analysis and assessment to support off-reservation power sales, including contract path capacity determination, load flow analysis and contract analysis.

Providing full regulatory support at the State or Federal level to support Tribal energy matters. We can prepare and defend expert testimony, prepare and support draft legislation or rulemakings and assess the adequacy of other parties’ positions on specific issues.
